Meet Our Coaches

Carrie Moura

Head Field Hockey Coach at CNU & Owner of Stick Power

In 18 seasons as the head coach of the Christopher Newport field hockey team, Carrie Moura has built the Captains into one of the finest programs in the nation and a perennial NCAA Tournament participant.

Bringing consistency to CNU, Moura took over a struggling program in 2003 that was on its fourth coach in just its fourth year of existence. Since then, she has not only become a much-needed leader for the program but has also established a winning tradition that has propelled the team into the national spotlight

As the head coach, Moura has led the program to an incredible 238-75 record. Her .760 winning percentage ranks 8th all-time among Division III coaches with at least 10 years of service.

Coach Moura started Stick Power to grow the game of field hockey in the 757 and has helped the careers of countless players reach the collegiate level.

Marlene Lichty

Assistant Coach at CNU

Marlene Lichty has served as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport field hockey team since 2014 after capping off one of the most decorated playing careers in CNU history.

From 2010-13, Lichty anchored the Captains’ midfield unit and helped lead the program to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Final Four during her senior campaign in 2013. A two-time NFHCA All-American and three-time All-Region selection, she set the all-time program record with 79 appearances during her career.

Since transitioning to the sidelines, Lichty has helped the Captains post a 126-42 record since 2014, including the program’s first CAC Championship in 2017 and another league title in 2023. During that time, she has helped coach 21 different All-Region performers.
